5.4. Check of the fuel pump

GENERAL INFORMATION

Arrangement of screws of fastening of finishing of the lower part of the dashboard closing the relay of the fuel pump

Arrangement of the main relay and relay of the fuel pump in the dashboard

Preliminary check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Open a cover of a fuel-filling mouth and include ignition. At the same time several seconds the sound of the working fuel pump has to be heard.
2. If the fuel pump does not work, check a safety lock of the fuel pump. If the safety lock is serviceable, check an electric power-supply circuit of the fuel pump and relay of the fuel pump (see rice. An arrangement of screws of fastening of finishing of the lower part of the dashboard closing the relay of the fuel pump, rice. An arrangement of the main relay and relay of the fuel pump in the dashboard).
3. Remove the relay and check that to contacts of the relay accumulator tension arrives. If tension arrives to contacts of the relay, check serviceability of the relay.
4. If tension of the accumulator arrives to contacts of the relay and relay of the fuel pump, disconnect the electric socket from the fuel pump and check that tension arrives to contacts of the socket at inclusion of ignition.
5. If tension is present at the socket of the fuel pump, check grounding of the fuel pump or replace the fuel pump.

Check of pressure created by the fuel pump

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Take off pressure in fuel system. Remove a weight wire from the accumulator.
2. Using a tee, connect the manometer between the fuel filter and the fuel highway.
3. Connect a weight wire to the accumulator and start the engine in the idling mode. Determine pressure created by the fuel pump in the fuel highway by indications of the manometer.
4. Remove a vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator (it is specified by an arrow) and watch indications of the manometer which have to increase.
5. If after removal of a vacuum hose pressure in fuel system does not increase, check availability of vacuum in a vacuum hose. If vacuum is present, replace the fuel pressure regulator.
6. If pressure in fuel system too high, check a condition of the return fuel-supply line. If a fuel-supply line in the normal state, replace pressure regulator.
7. If pressure too low, replace pressure regulator. If pressure does not increase, check a condition of the giving fuel tube, the fuel tank and the fuel filter.
8. For check of the regulator of pressure with a low pressure in fuel system, remove and close a returnable fuel hose. If pressure in system increases, replace pressure regulator.
9. Switch off the engine and in 5 minutes check fuel pressure.
10. Before removal of the manometer for measurement of pressure of fuel take off fuel pressure in fuel system.
