2.10. Check of level of oil in the automatic transmission

GENERAL INFORMATION

Oil level in the automatic transmission needs to be supported constantly at the required level. Too low level of oil can lead to violation in torque transmission, and too high level can lead to oil absorption, to losses and even to damage of the transmission.

The probe for measurement of level of oil in the automatic transmission is located in the left back corner of a motor compartment.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Carry out a trip on distance of 15-25 km to heat the transmission to the normal working temperature (70–80 °C).
2. Install the car on a plain horizontal surface.
3. Idling the engine, the tightened hand and foot brake, move the selector handle on all positions and return to a starting position (Park). In this position of the selector and engine idling take the probe for measurement of level of oil and along with a mark of level estimate an oil condition.
4. Wipe the probe and install it into place.
5. Repeatedly take the probe and measure oil level. If the transmission cold, the level of oil has to be between two lower tags on the probe. If the transmission is heated-up up to the normal working temperature, the level of oil has to be between two top tags on the probe.
6. If the transmission cold, the level of oil has to be between two lower tags, and at a hot box – between two top tags.
7. If oil level low, then add it through an opening for the probe.

Prevention

Never assume that the level of oil was more top tag.

8. The distance between tags corresponds to about 0,6 l of oil.
9. If color of oil black or brown, oil it is necessary to replace. If you doubt quality of oil, compare a sample of the fresh oil and oil which is in the transmission.
