2.5. Level of cooling liquid

GENERAL INFORMATION

Arrangement of a broad tank of the cooling system in a motor compartment

The broad tank is specified by an arrow.

Prevention

Do not uncover a broad tank on the hot engine as it is possible to get burn from vapors of hot cooling liquid.

Avoid hit of cooling liquid on the painted surfaces of a body and clothes. Otherwise wash out the place where cooling liquid a plentiful amount of water got.

Cars have the tight cooling system under pressure. The broad tank of white color is in a forward part of a motor compartment and is connected by a hose to the radiator head basis.

Level of cooling liquid is between tags of FULL and LOW on a broad tank. Level changes according to temperature of the engine and there have to be slightly above LOW tags on the cold engine and FULL tags on the hot engine are slightly lower. For filling it is necessary to use only cooling liquid on the basis of ethylene glycol with anticorrosive additives. As a last resort, it is possible to add water, but it must be kept in mind that at the same time temperature of freezing of cooling liquid will increase.

If the level of cooling liquid constantly decreases, then it indicates existence of leaks in the cooling system.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Carefully check all details of the cooling system (hoses, a radiator, traffic jams, etc.) visually and if it does not yield results, then make check of system under pressure.
2. If it is necessary to uncover a radiator, wait before full cooling of the engine, then through rags, unscrew a cover before the first fixing and then completely remove it.
3. When checking level of cooling liquid also check its state. If it very dark or rusty, then liquid it is necessary to merge, wash out the cooling system and to fill in fresh cooling liquid.
